CAcert.org
Wow, finally, a CA run by the people! Check out www.cacert.org.
Verification works on a points system (aka Web Of Trust).

Move to new box
If you are reading this it means my move to a new machine worked. Thanks to RIP and his jails, I've got a little jail now somewhere in the states.
It's been quite some fun trying to get used to the FreeBSD way but ultimately I cannot really yet complain.

Battlestar continues...
Looks like there will be another season of Battlestar Galactica! Our friends in the US has bumped up viewership enough. At least something to replace Enterprise!

Change in working holiday visas
'Ol Blair decided to make some changes to people abusing the UK Visa system. The only major change is that you cannot work for more than a year in one go, if you go on holiday, etc. inbetween you can make up for this time in your second year.
You can also only extend your stay if you move on to a Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) Visa or Work Permit. HSMP was the first Visa in the UK to come up with a points system and seems like Blair likes the system thus far.
1st Contact has some more news on this issue.
Better start looking at HSMP myself!

BT ADSL
TheReg says:
--snip--
BT Wholesale is promising faster and cheaper broadband in a move designed to back its commitment to greater competition and flexibility in the UK's telecoms sector. It's looking to run ADSL trials up to 8Mb and run pilots for ADSL2+ technology to support higher-speed services of up to 18Mb. From April, BT's also intends to cut the cost of its end-to-end wholesale IPStream broadband product.
--/snip--
Hopefully the UK will have propper bandwidth soon, now to just live in the right area.

StarTrek Enterprise nomore
As reported everywhere UPN has canceled Enterprise. As mentioned over here. As quite a few trekkies agree, StarTrek needs a break for a while.

Java
If you're like me and dislike 9mb "hello world" applications eating chunks of memory or just in general hate supposedly transportable languages in the day and age we generally do not 'transport' anymore.
Or maybe you just have some kind of irrational fear that stemmed from sleepless nights for the wonderfull language that is known as Java.
Either way, Reuben was so nice to give me this old memo (that I am sure I have read before) describing the java problem. A good read I think. Arcainus should pay particular attention to this so he can stop bothering me.
I'm not a programmer so I propably will not discourage people, all I can say however is that I am now 214 days Java clean and thankfully have not seen any out of memory, open files, CPU usuage or even silly CLASSPATH variables and am feeling remarkably better! *Ahhhh*
Javakiddie comments will be /dev/null'd. I like my bubble.
